It still amazes me that I can refer to myself as an influencer now! Well, technically, I am a micro-influencer, but still an influencer. According to actress Christina Calph, everybody can be considered an influencer, even if they have 10 followers because our actions usually impact each others’ in some way.

However, even though it seems like everyone wants to be an influencer nowadays, the life of an influencer is not always sunshine and rainbows as some people think it is.

Like any other job, being an influencer comes with its own set of challenges that usually make many people feel like quitting along their journey.

For example, you could feel discouraged by lack of growth in numbers, whether followers, engagement, impressions, or website traffic, lack of sponsorship opportunities, running out of ideas of what to post or how to make your posts interesting, competition, comparison, and failure to get satisfactory results despite trying.

Although some, such as poor health due to overworking, cyberbullying, or comparison, are good reasons to quit, you can overcome most other challenges of being an influencer.

So, if you are considering throwing in the towel, this post will provide tips on how to stay motivated as an influencer when you feel like quitting. Let’s dive in…

How to Stay Motivated as an Influencer When You Feel Like Quitting

  1. Remind yourself why you started

Many influencers lose sight of their original goal once they gain a large following and start making money using their platform. You start focusing more on the money or fame and less on why you started doing it in the first place.

Working on your platform becomes a chore as you start focusing more on the statistics and what other people think of you or your brand and less on yourself and what you want.

To get your desired results, you might show off a fake lifestyle on social media to fit the narrative you’ve created around yourself.

As you do these unethical things, your love for what you do may fade, and you could feel like quitting as an influencer to try reclaiming your life. But it is not yet time for you to give up on being an influencer.

At the beginning of your journey of becoming an influencer, you must have loved something about your platform and started it with a particular goal in mind – whether it was to document your experiences, share advice with your audience, or whatever other reasons.

Reminding yourself why you started your platform will help you refocus on what is important to you, and thus, help you learn how to stay motivated when you feel like quitting.

  1. Have role models to look up to

For many, being an influencer can feel like something that takes up all your time, money, or effort and rarely brings in the results you desire.

Perhaps the reason you feel like quitting as an influencer is that it seems like you are doing a lot for too little or nothing. But what if you knew all the time, money, and effort you are investing in your platform are worth it? Having role models to look up to will help you do just that.

Most popular influencers were at the same stage you are at one point, and somehow managed to get themselves to the level of influence they have, whether it is their follower numbers, engagement, earnings, or social circle.

If you are looking for tips on how to stay motivated as an influencer because you feel like quitting, find other influencers in your niche who seem to be doing well and make them your role models.

For inspiration and motivation, you could read about their influencer journeys on their blogs, interviews, or books, to find out how they made it.

You will realize that these influencers probably also experienced hardships that made them feel like quitting at some point but managed to find a way to keep going and achieve their goals.

  1. Be proactive

So you feel like quitting as an influencer because you don’t get sponsorship opportunities. But, have you done all you can to get those brand deals? Or have you been sitting back, waiting for brands and PR agencies to come across your influencer platform by chance?

If you are doing the latter, you will most likely wait for a while for sponsorship opportunities to land on your lap, or, in this case, your email inbox.

Your platform is your baby that you’ve probably built from scratch, and it deserves to be recognized. So, be more courageous and be willing to do the work of putting yourself and your platform out there.

Even if you are an introvert or lack self-confidence, get out of your shell and pitch to brands and PR agencies.

The worst thing that can happen is that you get a ‘No’, and you will probably get plenty of rejections before you manage to land high-paying gigs.

Get rejected, brush yourself off, then move on and look elsewhere. There are many brands out there looking for someone like you! All you’ve got to do is give yourself a chance. And, even if you get ‘No’s, at least you will know that you tried your best.

  1. Learn and keep improving

There are many reasons you might be feeling like quitting as an influencer. From wanting to keep your personal life private to feeling like you aren’t making the impact you thought you would, getting canceled, lacking work-life balance, not making the amount of money you expected, and having content stolen, among others.

However, if you love being an influencer, most of these reasons aren’t enough to discourage you and make you want to quit.

To learn how to stay motivated as an influencer when you feel discouraged, you should conduct some self-reflection to identify where things went wrong, then pick yourself up and reinvent yourself and your brand.

If what you’ve been doing doesn’t work, change your strategy, deal with copycats, post more consistently, learn to manage your time, take breaks when you need to, save your money for when gigs are scarce, and do anything else that will help you achieve your goals.

  1. Celebrate your wins

Just like with losing sight of why you are doing it, you might also find yourself focusing too much on achieving the big goals you have for your brand.

You forget that there are stepping stones on the way to your desired destination that deserves to be recognized and celebrated as well.

Therefore, if you feel like quitting because your big goal seems unattainable, learn how to stay motivated as an influencer by appreciating and celebrating your small wins.

Whether that is gaining 10 followers on your blog, Instagram, Youtube, TikTok, or other social networks, or having only a small but engaged audience, be grateful for all your small achievements along the way as you continue chasing your dreams.

  1. I’m curious as to what kind of brand deals you’ve had and/or brands you’ve worked for. So far, I have no clue how to find these things or where ppl look for them or how ppl pitch themselves to brands 🤷‍♀️

    1. Just started recently as well. I can use this post as an example because it is in collaboration with Intellifluence, an influencer marketing platform where bloggers join then send pitches to the brands that have listed sponsored post opportunities. In your pitch, you could just introduce yourself and tell them why you think your blog would be a good fit for them to collaborate with. If your blog or pitch meets the brand’s requirements, then they will likely want to work with you. I hope I explained it well.
I actually discovered Intellifluence through other bloggers who blog about blogging, and so far have been successful with a few assignments. You can join the Intellifluence platform for free using this link and try your luck https://app.intellifluence.com/influencers/register?referral=rdxnjylvxqzp020op7k9&type=influencers
