10 Fun Things to Do on Valentine’s Day If You Are Single in 2023
- Take yourself out on a date

Dates aren’t only for when you have a partner. If you will be alone this year, taking yourself out on a date is one of the fun things to do on Valentine’s Day when single.
For your solo date, you could visit your favorite restaurant and try out new dishes, go on a picnic, become a tourist in your town, go to the movies, or attend a concert.
Dating yourself is a great thing because it makes you learn to love yourself, gain self-confidence, and be self-sufficient instead of relying on other people to make you happy.
If you don’t want to go out because of bad weather, or you simply don’t feel like it, you can still celebrate Valentine’s Day alone at home by making your favorite dishes, trying out new recipes, or having dinner from your favorite restaurant delivered to your house and eating under candlelight.

- Pamper yourself

Even though Valentine’s Day will be on a Tuesday this year, you can still go all out and make this a day of putting yourself first and showing yourself some tender loving care.
Spending this special time making yourself feel good by pampering yourself should be at the top of your list of fun things to do on Valentine’s Day if you are single.
Pamper yourself by planning a staycation, buying yourself flowers, having an at-home spa night (or day if you aren’t busy), lighting some scented candles, taking a long bubble bath, practicing aromatherapy with essential oils, and applying a pumpkin facial mask, all while sipping some wine and eating chocolates.
After a day that was probably difficult for you, because not only did you spend Valentine’s Day alone but it was also a weekday, you will appreciate having a quiet evening at home relaxing and making yourself feel good through self-care.

- Celebrate with your single girlfriends

What should I do on Valentine’s Day when single? Just because you are single on Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you should spend the day alone, hiding in your house, and feeling sorry for yourself.
You most likely are not the only single one within your female friends’ group or among your colleagues. So, instead of all of you being alone on Valentine’s Day, you could extend Galentine’s Day to include February 14 as well, and spend the day bonding and celebrating your female friendships.
Make some plans with your other single friends to go out and do some fun things together on Valentine’s Day.
You could throw an anti-Valentine’s Day party, have a friends’ sleepover, go for a night out clubbing, dress up and go on a platonic date, attend a singles’ event near you, exchange gifts, get massages, get a manicure and pedicure, or do karaoke.
- Curl up with a romance novel

If you are a romance book lover and can’t have a real-life partner this year, you can always do the next best thing; get yourself a book boyfriend or book girlfriend.
You probably have some romance books that have been sitting on your To-Be-Read shelf forever because you never have time to read them, or perhaps, your favorite author has released a book recently.
Spending a cozy night at home curled up with a good book and escaping into the fictional world created by the author is one of the fun things to do on Valentine’s Day if you are single.
In case you are not into romance novels or don’t want a reminder that you don’t have someone special to spend Valentine’s Day with, you can read any other genre of books you love.

- Watch some romcoms

Even though you live alone and are single on Valentine’s Day this year, that doesn’t mean you can’t watch other people fall in love and still feel happy for them. So, another of the fun things to do on Valentine’s Day if you are single is watch some cheesy romantic comedies or any other movies that you like but haven’t gotten around to watching.
You can buy the romcoms on DVD or stream on Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, and other similar sites while curled up on your couch at home, or go to the cinema to see the latest movies in 2023.
Since Valentine’s Day is on a weekday this year, remember not to stay up too late if you have school or work to report to in the morning.
- Listen to music and dance around the house

As just mentioned, Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday this year, and hence if you don’t want to go out or stay up too late, you can always have fun at home.
Listening to music, singing along, and dancing to the beat, are some fun things to do on Valentine’s Day if you are single and alone.
You could look for empowering songs about being unapologetically yourself and knowing your worth or listen to breakup songs about how better off you are for being single on Valentine’s Day.
Sing along and dance to those songs and have fun instead of staying heartbroken and miserable at home.
- Go on a shopping spree

So you don’t have someone to give you romantic Valentine’s Day gifts this year because you are single. Why not go out and get something for yourself? After all, money is made to be spent. And there is no better day to splurge than on the day for celebrating love, even if it is self-love.
If you have set aside some money for treating yourself or have some gift cards that need to be spent, going on a shopping spree is one of the fun things to do on Valentine’s Day if you are single and alone.
Buy yourself Valentine’s Day gifts, new clothes, jewelry, shoes, home appliances, gadgets, and anything else on your wishlist. To have the most fun, avoid shopping online, and instead, go out to the mall and spend your day window shopping and buying the things you want.
Splurge on yourself, but be careful not to spend so much money that you end up broke when it is only mid-month.
While you might still be heartbroken over your past relationships, the only baggage you should be carrying on Valentine’s Day is your shopping bags full of things you love that add value to your life.

If you will be single on Valentine’s Day this year, you have an entire night to yourself, probably with nowhere to go and nothing much to do. Spend this time learning a new skill or doing some of your hobbies.
For example, you could paint, make crafts, draw, bake, knit, play an instrument, try to solve a 1000 pieces Jigsaw puzzle, write, play video games, or do anything else that will ensure you aren’t bored or sad when alone on Valentine’s Day.
- Brighten someone’s day

You probably know an elderly person who has no family to take care of them, a friend who lost their loved one, or even a homeless person you always pass by on your way home.
One of the fun things to do on Valentine’s Day if you are single and have nothing else planned is to help someone else have a great day. You could visit them and spend Valentine’s Day together, take them out, and get them a gift, flowers, or supplies such as food, clothes, and blankets.
Using this time to make someone else smile and brighten their day is one of the best things to do on Valentine’s Day when alone and single.
When you interact and help other people through difficult situations. it could change your way of thinking and make you realize there are far more important things in the world. Feeling sad and lonely because you are single on Valentine’s Day will seem like such a trivial thing to be obsessing about.

Great idea! There are so many ways you can have fun by yourself. Thanks for reading, Mauro❤️
I am single, so for me is a day like the other. Even if i were in a relationship, i would still rather stay home than doing something big and fancy.
Considering how commercialized Valentine’s Day is currently, you will save yourself all the money you’d have used had you gone all out. Some people forget that the point is to feel loved and to spread the love wherever you are.
Amen, my friend! Amen
My favorites are to pamper myself and watch romcoms!
And it is still fun, right? Make Valentine’s Day a Me day and do whatever makes you feel good and loved. Thank you for reading, Lily-Anne❤️
This list is good for any day of the week haha Especially the decluttering one. I find myself decluttering all the time – and I find it therapeutic. This year, I plan on helping my daughter make Valentine’s Day cards for her classmates. I did this as a kid and want to continue the tradition with her, plus it will help her learn how to write names. She’s in kindergarten.
Before I was in a relationship (I was single for 21 years), I didn’t do anything on Valentine’s Day. It was a typical school day for me. My mom would give me a card, chocolate and a stuffed animal. Every year she would do this, and I loved it ♥️ I really miss that. It’s the simple gestures that mean the most to ppl.
Very true! You are such an amazing mom, Hilary, and your mom sounds like she was too!❤️And you can definitely use these tips at any time.
I wish I read this few years ago when I needed it hahaha, great ideas`!
Valentine’s Day is a long day. I’m sure you can still do some of these things even now. Thank you so much for reading, Inn❤️

You’re most welcome, Sheri. Always! Indeed! ❤️
Really great ideas — I think sometimes Valentine’s Day can feel a bit pressured (even when you do have a partner) so I like how these ideas and activities are things to enjoy. Thanks for sharing!
You are welcome, Molly! I’m really glad you liked the post❤️
I love these ideas so much! Annoyingly, I’ve got the dentist booked for tomorrow 🤦♀️ but in the afternoon, I will definitely be curling up with a romance book x
I hate going to the dentist!! Wishing you good luck tomorrow, Caroline❤️ I’m sure if you choose a good book it will help you feel better afterwards.
