How to Make Remote Working Feel Easy

  1. Create an ideal and inspiring workspace

Remote working is fun, they say. Just browse for cheap flights and work from a beach, they say. But that is not a reality for most people.

If workationing is out of the question, then your next option would be to create a remote working space that is inspiring and healthy. It is, therefore, important for you to designate an area that your brain will associate solely with work and productivity, nothing else.

If you want to make remote working easier, find some space in your home where it is quiet and private. Such a space will minimize distractions and enable you to focus on your work. Perhaps that corner of your garage or basement will do the trick.

That being said, your dedicated workspace doesn’t have to be an uptight, boring, sleep-inducing place.

Add some of your personality to it by decorating it and adding stuff that boosts your mood and gets your creative juices flowing, for example, your favorite plant, some pieces of art, or even your pets.

  1. Use personal productivity apps

We are all familiar with team productivity apps such as Google Drive or team organizer apps such as Asana and others. But did you know that there are apps specifically designed to keep you focused and productive?

It is pretty much common knowledge that most of us are prone to distractions that makes us waste a lot of time when working remotely. Whether it is social media, news outlets, or even your family, distractions are aplenty. To make remote working easier and stay productive, you must find a way to eliminate distractions.

Meet the Freedom app, a personal productivity app designed specifically for blocking websites (or the entire internet) during specified hours. Using the Freedom app, you can easily block access to a number of non-related websites across all your devices.

The program can be installed on as many devices as you want with seamless sync functions. This means that once you have determined which sites you want to block and for how long, you won’t be able to access them on all your devices.

Apart from blocking websites, the Freedom app also has a time-management feature to help you keep track of your tasks.

Other personal productivity apps you can use to help boost your productivity and make remote working easier include;

  • Clockify: A web-based time-tracking program for remote workers and teams
  • Otter: An app that easily transcribes your online meetings
  • Bear app: A secure note-taking app useful for writing down notes or other info for later review. The Bear app allows users to set a unique password or use a face/touch ID to access their notes
  1. Plan for your day and maintain communication

When it comes to remote team working, scheduling and organizing are paramount. While you can’t physically reach out to your colleagues, you can plan your goals for the day and communicate with the team online so that everyone can work in synergy.

Communicating frequently and openly with your colleagues allows you to stay motivated and makes your remote working experience more enjoyable.

You can start by arranging a short morning discussion or a video conference with your manager or teammates. Discuss the tasks and timelines for the day and how you are planning to go about your day.

As mentioned earlier, there could be a lot of distractions when you have to work away from the office. Having colleagues or managers to remind you about your goals for the day will make remote working easier as they will help you be more productive and efficient.

  1. Get some fresh air

You may think that remote working means spending all your days indoors. But that doesn’t have to be the case. If anything, taking a break to get some fresh air will help you clear your mind and re-center yourself to a degree since it helps you manage your stress and anxiety levels.

So, if you want to make remote working easier, ensure you go outdoors for a spell. Water your plants, do some stretching, or just go for a short stroll around the neighborhood. You will be pleasantly surprised by your level of clarity, creativity, and focus upon your return.

Final Thoughts

Though it may seem easy, remote working also has some challenges, including distractions, loneliness, communication issues, and a lack of work-life balance. Nonetheless, it is still one of the best ways to work and earn a living. So, if you are thinking about becoming a digital nomad or working from home, don’t give up yet. Use the above tips to learn how to make remote working feel easy and enjoyable.

  1. Insightful post, remote working vs. office has its benefits and disadvantages.
Dynamics are totally different and I felt there is a mindset need to distinguish office space from home while working remotely. Also some homes are not designed for separate spaces which makes remote working difficult.
