What Is the Right Way to Spend Money on a Blog?
Let’s talk business before jumping into the tips and tricks. I would like to discuss and talk about something regarding spending money on a blog. If you have spent money before, what was the first thing that came to your mind? What was the first thing you purchased for your blog? Was it a theme, a domain, or something else?
We are talking here about when you already have a blog that has content, and everything is running. There is money in front of you, either because you are earning from your blog or another source, and it is ready to be spent. I’m saying this because you will need to spend a few bucks before this point, for instance, when getting a custom domain and purchasing other important things such as security and SSL. For that, I assume you already sorted it out.
You have your blog up and have content already, and you look at it thinking…what can I purchase for my blog now? Maybe what else do I need? If you have already done haha. Well, this is what I’m going to cover in this post and share the right way to spend money on a blog. And by the right way, I mean investing in things that will be worth every penny you spend and are going to help you a lot in your blogging journey.
If you go to the marketplace for anything related to blogging, you will find various options, and sometimes, you might be unsure what is best for your blog. Though I might not be an expert on this, I’m going to share some points to help you find the best things to purchase for your blog.
Before you spend anything…I highly recommend that you set a budget to spend on your blog and try saving money for other things in real life, especially if you are short on cash. You can always purchase more things for your blog when you get more money later. Even if you buy one thing at a time, that would be enough as you keep working and growing. But, first, let’s discuss what your blog needs and what it wants.
The Needs and Wants of a Blog
To help you prioritize what to spend money on, I’m going to start by mentioning some of the things your blog needs and what it wants. It is vital to remember that what we need is more important than what we want. So, when your blog needs something, that means it’s very important, and what you want for your blog should come second. That’s the right way to spend money on your blog.
What your blog needs
- Tools to block spam bots
- More security for your blog
- Grammar tools
- SEO tools
- Blog optimization tools
There are a lot more things that our blog needs to make it an amazing experience for our readers. However, what I mentioned above are the most important stuff that we need to look for first. If you have enough money and want to spend on the blog, these are the tools and plugins you should start with.
Spambot tools or plugins to keep your site spam-free are very important because spam gets annoying and can hurt your analytics a lot. So, we need to prioritize that, but I wouldn’t say it is the first thing you should spend money on, as there are still other more important things on the list that we need to buy for the blog.
Since every blogger has different priorities for their website, the right way to spend money on a blog is by taking your time to know what you need the most first and then decide which one to spend money on second.
One thing you should pay attention to is that there might be a good plugin or product you could find at a cheaper price or get a discount. So, don’t rush, and make sure to look for every possible place you can get the plugin or product, as doing that might help big time if you find offers.
What your blog wants
- Site builder
- Buttons, either like or share for your blog
- Ad inserter
These are categories of things that we might need or want for our blogs. However, each one has a wide range of plugins and apps you can choose from and also different prices. As I share what is the right way to spend money on a blog, I will also include some tips on how to find the perfect ones for you.
The wants and needs here are based on the level of importance. I need it because of an important reason. But I want it because of a good reason that will help my blog. However, when choosing the right way to spend money on a blog, I highly recommend looking first at what your blog needs before considering spending on wants.

3 Tips for Spending Money the Right Way on Your Blog
- List the options
Now that you know more about what you want and what you need for your blog, it’s time to list the options. Let’s take, for example, if you need to buy an SEO tool for your blog. Before purchasing anything, list the various options of the tools available on the market. As you do this, make sure to learn more about the SEO tool you are considering by looking it up on the internet. I’m assuming you know what it does and how it works, and if you don’t, it’s important to know it.
We need to be more responsible when spending money on our blog. So that means we spend some time researching before buying anything. Don’t rush the process because it’s important and sensitive. Spending money on things like this might be a waste, and we need to choose the right way to spend money on a blog.
This applies to any plugins or apps because I’m sure you will find more than one option on the market. Also, you are not doing this for nothing. There is more than just “know what is on the market”. Listing the available options and choosing the best tools for blogging will help you in so many ways.
Benefits of listing all the options
- Comparing different prices
- Finding the features you are looking for
- You might find one with discounts and offers
These are some benefits of doing this step before buying anything for your blog. So I highly recommend doing it and aiming for the right plugin or app. If you rush and buy from the first offer, it will be a bit depressing for you when you find out later that another place had a discount on it. That’s why we need to be careful and take our time.
Remember, there might also be a free version of the plugins, tools, and, maybe, even the apps you need. So look for these as well, and that will be a good start for you. This way, you will use it and understand everything about it. Maybe a free version will be enough for you until you start making money from your blog.
- Learn more about it before purchase
You have all the options, and it’s now time to narrow it down to the one you will purchase. First, if you have a long list of options, I would say cut it to the top 5 of the tools you need for your blog. Maybe 10 if you want to get lower prices. This way, it will be easy for you to learn about them and compare them to see which one is best for you.
During this step, you can also ask a friend or someone that has purchased it to know how it works and what to expect after buying it. This will be the best way possible to collect information and learn because nothing is better than experience.
Well, if you don’t have a friend, there will likely be a lot of reviews on the internet that you can read about the plugin or product. I’m not sure if all of them have reviews, but most of them do. Researching the product or plugin before buying is the right way to spend money on your blog, and here is why.
Benefits of learning before purchasing
- Learn how it is used
- Make sure it’s worth buying for the long run
- Understand different aspects of it
- Learn what to actually expect from it
Before buying it, you need to understand everything about the tool you need. Because it’s money we are talking about here, and some of these plugins and apps are expensive. If it’s not worth it, your money will be wasted. It could also be risky to spend money on the wrong thing because some of these plugins or apps don’t have a refund or a trial period.
Tip: Before buying, make sure you can refund the money if you are not sure of the app or plugin. This way, you can get it back when it’s not something you need or want.
All the benefits are clear, and I would say there are even more important benefits of doing your research before buying. If you have another reason why doing this is the right way to spend money on the blog, let me know in the comments below.
